Coverage and reimbursement
At a glance
Billing is based on the German Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists (Gebührenordnung für Psychotherapeuten, GOP). The total costs depend on the type and scope of services provided as well as the complexity of your concerns. I am happy to support you in clarifying any questions with your insurance provider or other cost carriers.
Private Health Insurance
During the course of therapy, particularly at the beginning, additional billable services may be required if necessary. These may include:
Diagnostic assessment
Clinical assessments
Assessing the biographical anamnesis
These services are billed separately. This applies equally to self-paying clients, privately insured patients, and those eligible for Beihilfe. Depending on the individual insurance contract, some private insurers and public aid providers may only cover part of the costs; in such cases, a private co-payment is required.
In many cases, private health insurance providers cover the costs of psychotherapy. I recommend reviewing your individual insurance policy in advance or contacting your insurance provider directly for clarification. The fee for a 50-minute session ranges between EUR 134.06 and EUR 186.52, depending on the complexity of the session.
Additional Costs
Self-paying Clients
You may choose to pay for sessions privately. Billing is transparent and straightforward, with minimal administrative effort, allowing therapy to begin seamlessly. One advantage is that psychotherapy remains fully confidential and is not disclosed to insurance providers. This can be particularly relevant, for example, in the context of planned civil servant status or when taking out professional liability insurance. Fees correspond to those charged for privately insured patients.
Beihilfe
In most cases, you will receive partial or full reimbursement of treatment costs from your Beihilfe and, additionally, from your private health insurance. The amount reimbursed depends on the applicable public aid regulations and your individual insurance terms. Please note that full reimbursement cannot be guaranteed and a personal co-payment may be required. I therefore recommend clarifying the specific reimbursement conditions prior to starting treatment.
Heilfürsorge
If you are employed by the Bundeswehr and covered by military health care (Heilfürsorge), you may book an initial consultation directly. Please bring a referral from your military physician (Truppenarzt) as well as the completed medical form “San/Bw/0218” to the initial session.
Public health insurance
In a private practice, patients with statutory health insurance are welcome to attend psychotherapy as self-paying clients.
Fees are calculated in accordance with the German Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists (GOP). The fee for the initial consultation is EUR 134.06.

Reimbursement with public health insurance.
As a private practice, patients with public health insurance may only receive reimbursement of treatment costs under specific conditions via the cost reimbursement procedure (Kostenerstattungsverfahren). This is possible if, despite repeated attempts, you were unable to start a therapy with a practice accredited for public health insurance .
For the application, your health insurance provider generally requires the following documents:
Confirmation of your physician: Confirmation that psychotherapeutic treatment is medically necessary and urgent.
Record of therapy search: Documentation of your efforts to find an available therapy place within a reasonable timeframe or distance .
Confirmation from my practice: Confirming that I am able to take on the treatment at short notice.
I am happy to discuss the next steps with you during an initial consultation and answer any questions you may have. Please note that the costs of the initial consultation must be paid by you privately, as reimbursement by the public health insurance is only possible after formal approval has been granted. Please also be aware that reimbursement by your public health insurance cannot be guaranteed after the initial consultation.
